Aim High

It’s the motto for my daughter’s school. It’s also what I’m being told to do by anyone who has taken the time to get to know me.

How high is too high?

My Aunt is a stong believer in the 5 year plan. To be honest I have no idea where I’ll be in the next few weeks, let-a-lone in 5 years.

I have been giving it some thought, despite the enormity of the scope.

I would love to be able to travel because of my jewelery.

I would love to be able to afford to extend my house to make a room of my own to hold classes in, so my stuff isn’t all over the house.

At the moment my goal for 2010 is to earn myself a laptop.

I’m getting there.

Is that aiming high enough?? Maybe not, but goals are important and working towards them teach you valuable lessons.

The quote I have a love hate relationship with is…

Don’t be afraid to take big steps.
You can’t cross a chasm in two small ones.

Happy Wife Happy Life.

Well, happy kiddo, more peaceful life in this case.

I’ve been nagged by my daughter, every time I head into a craft supply store, to buy her a pair of pliers so she can help me open jump rings.

I gave in and did so on Saturday.

After 48 hours of begging, I opened the packaging and handed her her first pair of chain nose pliers on Monday morning. She then spent quite a few hours opening jump rings.

I’ve told her she can earn $$  per tray of open jump rings. Now how stupid was that??

Time will tell but I’ll have to keep an eye on her. We don’t need an 8-year-old with RSI.

Long Restful Weekends

It’s not often people really impact your life. Dr. Phil says we only have under 10 influential people in our entire lives.

I spent ANZAC day catching up with one of THE most influential people in my life.

As a kid I was bullied mercilessly because I looked different. I can remember Mum being told by the school headmaster that I needed to work harder at fitting in. Look at me… do you really think there is any way in hell I would ‘fit in’ anywhere? (well besides at a Clarke family reunion.)

Anyways. Grade 5 saw a change in the school administration and Mrs. Lewis took the role of Deputy Principal.

I think it took her less than a month… perhaps not even a week to get those bullies to pull their heads in.

She single-handedly did what my parents hadn’t been able to do. She taught me I was worthy. I had a right to be happy and I deserved to have friends.

The most wonderful moment of the day was showing her my jewelery, and her showing me some of hers.

I tell you, she does some breath-taking pieces, and she is hard pressed keeping up with demand… which, looking at the pendants she showed me, is completely understandable.

I picked her brain and she picked mine.

We also found time to wish my Mother in law a very happy ’21st’.

I think yesterday was the most fun I’ve had in quite a while.

Be Spontaneous

I’ve had a long day already and it’s not even 1pm yet.

5:30am start. Kiddo dressed and ready for the student ANZAC ceremony being held in ANZAC square. Actually got her to school on time… woohoo!

Then I jumped on a bus to meet her in there, stood around waiting for her group to make it in. Waved at her (even though I promised not to) and then nicked off to my next appointment.

Bus ride home and a flit inside the house to get my gear, then back up to the school to give the school chaplain a crash corse in basic jewelery making 101.

An hour and a half later and I’m home doing this.. phew.

I still have to do the school pick up and grocery shopping tonight.

So why the title???

I only made up my mind to go to the city yesterday and only offered the appointment to the chaplain after school yesterday.

I am a strong believer that things happen when they’re supposed to. You will be shown what you need at the moment you need to see it, you just have to have your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground to get the hint.

I wrote on the card for the bride and groom last weekend a quote by Lucy M. Montgomery.

The nicest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens,

but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following on one another softly like pearls slipping off a string.

That’s what today has been like. Hardly any waiting time. Everything just fell into place.

Nothing is Wasted in Craft

We’ve figured out what we’re doing in craft group next week… yay for organisation.  We’re making new cards from old cards. Recycling at it’s best.

The talented woman, who brought some of her own creations along to show us today, has made enough beautiful cards to give hallmark a run for their money.

My job over the weekend is to go find all my old Christmas cards, any decent Birthday cards and I will probaby pull out some of the paper tole sheets I haven’t made up yet.  Mix it all together and I should get something to be proud of.

Here are a couple of hurried photots of the beautiful Christmas cards my daughter and I made for a couple of lucky teachers last year.

Cherub Card

Santa Card

You can imagine their faces when they received the wax sealed envelope ( for some reason wax seals flip people out) to open it and find a hand made card, then to open the hand made gift.

I tell you, hand made will always win out over store bought any day of the year.

Time for a shameless plug…

With all this rain around all I want to do is curl up with the cats and read a good book. Sharp Shooter is a perfect pick. Go find it, it’s bright (blinding) orange, so it’s hard to miss. Written by Marianne Delacourt.

I dare you not to giggle out loud.

Sunrise Imports is a whole sale warehouse on the south side of Brisbane.

Without them I’d got batty trying to make my own jump rings.

Reasonable prices and you can buy in bulk.

Tips though…

  • Don’t wear white… They haven’t had a chance to dust since the dust storms last year.
  • Have the codes ready for the products you want to buy. It makes for a quick way to get things done.
  • Take some moistened towelets to wipe your hands afterwards.

Happy hunting.

Took this one at the wedding on Saturday.

Bride and Groom threw a spectacular event.

May the rest of their days be as romantic as the groom’s speech, their experiences together be as colourful as the lighting, their daughters (if they have any) be as delicate as the embroidery on their mothers wedding dress, their words to one another be as sweet as the wedding cake.

*sigh*

Planning Ahead.

Last weekend I was at SupaNova Brisbane. What better time to deck yourself out in stuff you wouldn’t normally wear during the day.

I chose to christen the dragonfly I was sent from the US.

Dragonfly.

I have a wedding to attend today.
I’ve chosen to wear a Round Mail necklace with a Wildlight Studios lamp work bead.

Round Mail with Wildlight Studios Bead.

I know of a few North Side Bead shops that have been known to sell beads from this studio, but I manages to get a set of 3 of the above from the Bead and Gem convention at the RNA show grounds last year.

Well worth it.

What Inspires

I haunt so many places for inspiration for my jewelery.

Sometimes I will think of something and seek out parts to make the whole.
Other times I see one element of a piece and the mind boggles as to what I will do with it.

The latter was the case when I found the blue diamonte pretties in what I call the Blue Emperess.

The Blue Diamonte Pretty

I sat and played with so many ideas before I came up with the final product as it is.

Blue Emperess

And it may not stay this way.

Who knows what will happen as I learn new weaves.
Nothing is ever wasted… also nothing is ever perminant.

I think that’s one of the things I enjoy so much. If I change my mind… it’s fine.

In the Eye of the Beholder

In the about me section, I say hubby and I have a mutual interest in photography.

So I thought instead of flapping on about jewelery today I’d pick a few of my favourite happy snaps to share.

3 only I promise.

The youngest member of our family.

Kimmie says PPPffttt

This one I took at River fire 2009.

A trippy view of Brisbane's river front.

Some mornings I’m up really early. It’s just a refreshing thing to do to watch the sun rise occasionally.

Sunrise 25.6.09

So there’s my three beautiful things for today.
Hope you liked them.
