The helicopters have been flying over head since about midday yesterday.
You know you’ve been well and truly buzzed when you can tell the difference between a regular chopper and a black hawk without even looking.
What’s the difference? When a black hawn flies over the house vibrates. The windows rattle in their housing. The bass vibrates through your entire body. You can hear them from so far away and well into the distance.

In this case we know they’re saving lives, doing supply drops, plucking people from rooves and flood waters. The thought is never far from my mind for those from war torn countries. Where the sound of something like that would cause nightmares. Refugees having to remind themselves that they aren’t in mortal danger.
We are still the lucky country.

Dorothea MacKellar certainly got it right in the second verse of her poem My Country.

I love a sunburnt country,

A land of sweeping plains,

Of rugged mountain ranges,

Of droughts and flooding rains,

I love her far horizons,

I love her jewel-sea,

Her beauty and her terror –

The wide brown land for me!

That’s the last time Brisbane flooded.

This and more has yet to arrive in Brisbane.

Also remember those in Western Australia who are battling bushfires. Life for so many has been turned on it’s ear.

We’ve got our fingers crossed that many of the unaccounted for are simply high, dry and do not know they are classed as missing. If it rains again in the next few months I think I’ll scream.

back in 74 it was the Chinooks we loved for their life-saving efforts. The sound still thrills me and takes me back.

Remember the time they did a low fly over the house in Bundaberg? You weren’t so thrilled then. *wink*
